Acting in solidarity! Participants for International School Competition Wanted
aces - Academy of Central European School launches call for cross-border school projects
“Embracing solidarity: We care, dare and share!”, is the theme of this year’s competition for cross-border school projects. For the eighth time, aces - Academy of Central European Schools invites teachers and students to develop and implement a project together with international partners. Project proposals can be submitted from January 15th till April 15th, 2015. The schools with the best ideas will receive a grant.
aces is an educational initiative of ERSTE Foundation and is coordinated by Interkulturelles Zentrum (Vienna, Austria) in cooperation with VČELI DOM (Bratislava, Slovakia). Since 2006 the school network has been active in Central and South Eastern Europe with the aim to promote exchange and intercultural dialogue among young people. 15 countries are involved in the network which is supported by the Ministries of Education of all participating states. So far more than 25.000 pupils and 3.600 teachers have participated in the aces programme.
This year’s topic: Solidarity
All humans are equal, but not all have equal opportunities. Unfortunately some are less privileged for one reason or another. Some might have special needs, live below the poverty line or are marginalised because of who they are, where they come from or what has occurred to them. aces aims for a society in which people care about each other, a place where people not only claim their rights but also see the responsibility they have for the wellbeing of all. “aces promotes the idea of equal partners and shared responsibilities. Due to its international character, students and teachers are encouraged to look beyond their own lives and horizons. Making friends with people from other countries and seeing your country from another perspective enhances critical thinking, empathy, solidarity and is a lot of fun, too”, explains Robin Gosejohann, Project Manager of the ERSTE Foundation.
One competition – plenty of winners
From January 15th to April 15th, 2015 interested schools are invited to find international partners and to submit a joint project proposal. The call addresses schools in the eligible countries with a target group of students aged 12 to 17 years. The online partner finder on the aces website (www.aces.or.at/partnerfinder) helps to match the applicants. An international selection committee selects and awards the best ideas. The winners are supported to carry out their cross-border projects. International meetings with delegations of all winning projects provide a platform for exchange and further educational development.
